Sunday Sermon

August 4, 1955

Dear Diary,

Today was a day full of blessings and joy. Sister Mary Claire, Mini, and I attended Mass together at St. Mary's. The church was filled with familiar faces, all gathered in unity and faith. Father LeRoy's homily was especially moving today. He spoke about the ongoing Eucharistic Revival and focused on a verse from the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John: “Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life.” His words reminded me of the importance of seeking spiritual nourishment and keeping our hearts and minds focused on God’s eternal promises.

After Mass, we were invited to Tom and Judy's big house for Sunday dinner. It was a lovely gathering where we enjoyed fried chicken, mashed potatoes with chicken gravy, and sweet corn that was so delicious it felt like dessert. The actual dessert was Vanilla Ice Cream made with heavy cream from the Kalona Dairy Farm . The laughter and warmth of good company made the meal even more delightful.

In the evening, Sister Mary Claire and I spent time in the prayer wagon. We listened to Bishop Robert Barron's Sunday sermon, which was both enlightening and comforting. It felt like the perfect way to end the day, surrounded by peace and reflection.

Before I close, I want to offer a short evening prayer:

"Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of this beautiful day. Thank You for the moments of fellowship and the reminders of Your everlasting love. Help us to always seek the food that endures for eternal life and to keep our hearts open to Your guidance. Bless our family, friends, and all those in need of Your grace. Amen."

Good night, dear diary. Mini is already curled up and fast asleep, and I can hear the gentle sounds of the night through the open window. Tomorrow is another day to seek and share God’s love.

With a grateful heart,
Kathy

Third Day

September 28, 1955 Dear Diary, Another cold, blustery day, even worse than yesterday. My hopes of fishing by the shore of Okoboji were dashe...
