This morning’s walk to church felt a bit lonely without Mini trotting beside me on the gravel road. Sister Mary Claire was with me, but I missed Mini’s little presence. She stayed home, still sleepy from her pain pills. It was the right thing to do, but I couldn’t help but feel a little sad without her there.
The Gospel reading from Matthew 16:13-23 really resonated with me today. Peter’s strong faith in declaring Jesus as the Messiah was inspiring, but when he tried to protect Jesus from suffering, he was gently corrected. It made me think about how much we want to shield those we love, even when we know they must go through difficult times.
In the afternoon, Mini’s dear friend Cheryl called on the party line to check on her. Cheryl absolutely adores Corgis—she has a special love for their little legs and big personalities. It’s always so comforting to know that others care about Mini too. Cheryl’s call lifted my spirits, reminding me that love comes in so many forms.
Later, when Mini woke up and wanted to play ball, it broke my heart to tell her no. Instead, I talked her into posing for a sketch, and she was so patient, her eyes full of trust. Even though we couldn’t do what she wanted, we shared a quiet moment together. It felt like a gentle reminder from the Gospel—sometimes, love means trusting in the harder path.
Dear Lord, thank You for the love of friends like Cheryl, who care so deeply. Help me to make wise choices for Mini, even when they’re tough. Heal her, and bring her comfort. Amen.
Goodnight, dear Diary.
