The Canaanite woman

Dear Diary,

This morning, Sister Mary Claire, Mini, and I walked down the gravel road to St. Mary’s for  early Mass. The sun was shining brightly, and the birds were singing.

Father LeRoy’s homily was deeply moving. He preached on the Gospel of Matthew 15:21- 28, where Jesus encounters the Canaanite woman. At first, Jesus seemed to ignore her pleas, but she persisted, showing unwavering faith. Even when Jesus tested her by saying, "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs," she humbly responded, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters." Jesus then praised her faith and healed her daughter.

Father emphasized that true faith is persistent and humble, always trusting in God's goodness. He said, "Faith is often tested to deepen our trust and reliance on God's grace. The Canaanite woman teaches us to never give up in our prayers and always believe in God's mercy."

After Mass, we returned home. Mini had to visit the vet today because of a broken tooth. She was so brave, but it was hard to see her in pain. The vet had to pull the tooth, and Mini received IV fluids through a vein in her paw. Now she has a bandage around her paw and an ice pack to her jaw. She’s a bit under the weather and resting with Sister Mary Claire and me tonight. I’m keeping a close eye on her, making sure she’s comfortable.

As I end this entry, I am filled with gratitude for the lessons learned today and the blessings in my life. I am also praying for Mini's quick recovery.

Short Prayer: Lord, help me to have the faith and humility of the Canaanite woman. May I always trust in Your mercy and grace, even in times of silence. Please watch over Mini and help her to heal quickly and without pain. Amen.

Until tomorrow, dear diary.

Love,
Kathy

Third Day

September 28, 1955 Dear Diary, Another cold, blustery day, even worse than yesterday. My hopes of fishing by the shore of Okoboji were dashe...
