Today marked a heartwarming chapter as Father Leroy arrived early this morning by train and quickly settled into the quaint rectory behind St. Mary's. By evening, feeling the warmth of his new home, he decided it was the perfect moment to hold a Mass of Thanksgiving. This special service, celebrating our reunion and his new beginning among us, was attended only by Sister Mary Claire—my dear sister—and me.
Father Leroy's homily beautifully wove together the themes of joy and commandments, illustrating how true happiness emerges not from burdens but through embracing God’s laws as pathways to joy. He shared insights from Thomas Aquinas on how our deepest joy is found in aligning our desires with the divine, highlighting that our ultimate happiness lies in this spiritual alignment.
Moved by his words, I feel compelled to offer a prayer of thanksgiving:
Lord of all, tonight we gather in gratitude, celebrating our unity and the blessed journey ahead. We thank You for bringing Father Leroy safely to us, for the sanctuary of our little church, and for the loving presence of my sister by my side. May this Mass of Thanksgiving echo our joy and Your providence, guiding us closer to You through our desires and deeds. Bless this humble assembly, that it may flourish into a vibrant testament of Your love and grace. Amen.
This evening was more than a simple Mass; it was a reaffirmation of our shared faith and the joyful beginnings of our community here.
Goodnight, Diary.
With a heart full of gratitude, Kathy
