Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

This morning, Sister Mary Claire and I awoke with hearts lightened by the prospect of a later start. We strolled down the road to St. Mary’s, where Father Leroy presided over Holy Mass. A quiet buzz of anticipation filled the air as the local faithful gathered, drawn by the beauty of the service and the sacred space around us.

Today’s gospel reflection dove into the deep and mystic dialogue from John’s Gospel at the Last Supper. Jesus’ intimate discourse with His disciples unfolded before us, revealing the profound unity between the Son and the Father. His assurance, “If you know me, then you will also know my Father,” echoed through the church, bringing the scripture vividly alive. It’s a powerful message, emphasizing that in knowing Jesus, we are granted knowledge of the Father, as Jesus is the "icon of the invisible God."

Philip’s interaction, marked by his plea, “Master, show us the Father,” highlighted a frequent human shortcoming—the struggle to see beyond the tangible. Yet, Jesus’ response was a gentle reiteration of His deep communion with the Father, underscoring that His words and deeds are the manifestations of the Father’s will and works.

As dusk approached, Sister Mary Claire and I retreated to the peaceful confines of our inner court prayer wagon. In this secluded space, enveloped by the stillness of the Iowa fields, we offered our prayers. It was a serene ending to a day steeped in spiritual nourishment and reflection.

A Prayer:

Heavenly Father, in the sacred quiet of St. Mary's and under the watchful guidance of Father Leroy, we seek understanding and closeness to You through Your Son. Help us to see through Jesus, Your profound works, and hear in His words Your divine wisdom. In this country sanctuary, let us abide in the intimacy of Your presence, ever seeking, ever learning.

Amen.

With all my heart, Kathy
