Dear Diary

Learn More about these two Sisters Here

May 4th, 1955

Dear Diary,

Today was a day of joyful preparation and meaningful reflection. Sister Mary Clare and I busied ourselves helping Father LeRoy settle into his new home at the little rectory behind St. Mary's. With everything almost in place, we look forward to the warm welcoming party planned for him very soon.

Father LeRoy, who recently returned from his studies in Rome and originally hails from Danbury, Iowa, shared that although he must visit his parents occasionally, he has committed to being with us for Sunday Mass every week. It's a blessing to feel the strengthening of our community’s spirit through his dedication.

This evening, Sister Mary Clare and I spent some quiet time in the Inner Court prayer wagon. Amidst the soft flickering candlelight, I found myself deeply moved by today’s Gospel reflection shared by Father LeRoy. It reminded us that while we rejoice during this Easter season because "The Lord is risen; he is truly risen," and "Jesus Christ is Lord, God is King," we must also remain vigilant. The world may oppose those who do not belong to it, as Jesus chose us out of the world. We celebrate the victory over sin and death, yet we recognize that the struggle continues. Julian of Norwich’s words resonate with our current state: "All will be well, all manner of things will be well," yet in the future tense, acknowledging the ongoing battle despite the definitive victory.

Here in the wagon, under the glow of simplicity and prayer, I offer a prayer for Father LeRoy and our community:

Heavenly Father, bless Father LeRoy as he begins his ministry among us. Grant him strength and wisdom to guide our community closer to You. May our faith be a beacon of Your love and truth in a world that often seems indifferent. Amen.

Goodnight Dear Diary,
Kathy
