Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer

In the tender light of morning, I opened my Inner Court prayer book and my heart, speaking the words that bind the day to grace:

"O LORD God Almighty, who hast caused us to reach the beginning of this day, save us to-day by thy power, that we turn not aside to any sin, but that our words, thoughts, and deeds may ever be ruled by thy justice. Deign, O Lord God, King of heaven and earth, to direct and sanctify, to rule and govern this day our hearts and bodies, our senses, words and actions in thy law and in the works of thy commandments, that we may merit to be saved and made free by thee, O Saviour of the world, both now and for ever. May holy Mary and all saints intercede for us to the Lord, that we may merit to be aided and saved by him who liveth and reigneth for ever and ever. Amen.

HAIL, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us; and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

V. Grant me to praise thee, O sacred Virgin.

R. Give me strength against thine enemies.

O MY Queen and my Mother! I offer myself entirely to thee; and in proof of my devotion I consecrate to thee this day mine eyes, my ears, my mouth, my heart, yea, my whole being. Therefore, since I am thine, blessed Mother, preserve and defend me as thine own possession.

Angel of God, who art my guardian, since by the merciful care of heaven I am entrusted to thy charge, do thou this day enlighten, keep, govern, and direct me. May the Lord almighty order our days and actions in his peace. The Lord bless us, and guard us from all evil, and lead us to life eternal; and may the souls of the faithful, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen." (The Inner Court Prayer Book)

And as I close this sacred tome and the pages of today, I send forth a simple blessing for all who find solace in these words. May your hearts be full, your paths be guided by light, and your spirits be embraced by the love and protection of Our Heavenly Mother. In this morning’s promise, let us carry the serenity and hope it brings into the bustle of our day.

With love and devotion, Kathy
